Protests

•China: Countries like Germany, Italy, England and USA wanted China to westernize. But the boxers didn't, they had a rebellion. They protested against everyone for China not westernizing. But their rebellion wasn't really peaceful. They would kill christian innocent people and people having to do with westernizing China.

•Panama: Panama was controlled by Columbia. Panama wanted to be their own country so they started to protest against Columbia. USA wanted to build the Panama canal and Columbia didn't let them, panama and USA made an agreement. Which is if USA helps panama out against Columbia then USA can build the Panama canal.

•Nigeria: In 1914 Britain merged the south and the north of Nigeria together. The north was islamic and the south was Christian. The north wanted nothing to do with westernization but the south did, so they protested and rebelled against the idea of merging.

Massacres

Massacres

Since the beginning of empires, there has been conflict. Filling the space between the conflict is tension, building of to massacres and bloodshed. These massacres have been spearheaded by imperialist conquests by empires such as the German Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and the United States of America.

When the United States was pushed into Vietnam, President Lyndon B. Johnson was quoted as saying "Our numbers have increased in Vietnam because the aggression of others has increased in Vietnam. There is not, and there will not be, a mindless escalation." A mindless escalation could be qualified as bombing villages, or firing on innocent civilians, but one could qualify such a mindless escalation as the carnage at My Lai. It is estimated that from two hundred to four hundred people were killed in the massacre.

The more alarming aspect of this attack was that out of the thirty people listed in the Lieutenant's report, only fourteen were charged. Out of those fourteen only one went to jail - for ten years. Despite being labeled as America's scapegoat after receiving a life sentence, he twice had his sentenced reduced to ten years, and then was paroled by President Richard Nixon. after only one day. He served three and a half years under house arrest.

Armenia was a region that during the late nineteenth century and beyond was struggling to gain political autonomy. The country was surrounded by other successful countries that beat the rule of imperialism; Greece, Romania, and Bulgaria all had broken away from the Ottoman empire. Nationalism in Armenia began to grow in the eighteen eighties, with multiple political groups being formed starting to be organised amongst the people. These groups were deemed as a threat to Ottoman society, and the leader had to take action. Sultan Abdulhamid II began enacting the Ottoman army to attack and kill those who were forming radical political groups that protested for Armenian sovereignty.

The first notable battle in this string of one hundred thousand to two hundred thousand deaths was in the small town of Sassoun. Armenian rebels refused to pay taxes that would support the Ottoman's, and this led to the murder of around eight thousand Armenian civilians. The man to the left is the man who is credited with starting the first uprising in Sassoun, his name is Medz'n Mourad.

Revolutions

There have been many revolution all around the world during the imperialist era.  One example is the revolution in India.  The story start in 1857 with the Sepoy Revolution.  The India was a colony of England mainly controlled by the British East India Trading Company.  The trading company employed Indian troops(sepoys) in large number in their armies.  The Sepoys had not been treated well by the British and their angry boiled over into outright rebellion when the British required Sepoy's to use a new rifle cartridge sealed with animal fat.  It is against the religion of both the Muslim's and Hindu's to bite the animal to use the cartridge.  This was an outrage to the Sepoys and they started attacking their British officer.  This spread all across India but the movement quickly fell apart as the Muslims and the Hindu began infighting.  Another rebellion in the imperialist era was the Boxer Rebellion.  The Boxer's where against the modernization of China and did not like western culture.  They rose up in the country side and began to kill every westerner they could see.  The Empress of China Cixi did nothing to stop the Boxer's because she secretly supported them.  The foreign country decided to defeat the Boxers and put together a international coalition of 20,000 troops.  The countries in the coalition included England, France, the United States, Japan, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Russia.  This coalition quickly defeated the Boxer's.  With the Boxer's defeat China was forced to modernization and change their government.
